Two short weeks after Deacon Charles’ ordination, our family celebrated another vocation when our cousin, Br. Paul, professed simple vows on June 16th at the close of his year long novitiate. How I longed to be at the abbey in Cleveland with his parents, grandma, aunt, and cousins! Instead I spent the day in New York with Br. Paul’s niece, Kylie, our cousin, Lindze, and Karl. We thought of Br. Paul and spoke of him often throughout the day and were excited to finally speak to him on Saturday evening. Br. Paul made his rounds as the phone was passed from person to person. It was so good to hear his voice after months of not being able to communicate over the phone.
I couldn’t see his face, but I heard the same joy in Br. Paul’s voice that Deacon Charles had after his ordination as he told me about the mass and making his vows. I couldn’t stop smiling! I have been so incredibly humbled to watch both of these men discover their vocations and the journeys that followed. And then to see both of vocations come to fruition weeks apart is overwhelming! How I love my deacon brother and my brother cousin!!!
What a month this has been for our immediate and extended Schwartz family! An ordination and a profession of vows! A Deacon and a Benedictine monk! We are by no means a perfect family. We are just another example of the good that God can bring about through love. We are grateful to have so much to celebrate!
